The buildings from left to right are:
Gladstone’s Coffee House, The Harbour Board building with the time-ball, Seagar’s Iron Foundry & Shipbuilders and Hobson Wharf with a Craig Line barque alongside. Just out of sight around the Harbour Board Building was the graving dock … now the Tepid Baths. The Boat Harbour and North Shore Ferry Company landing is just beyond Queen’s Wharf.

The seaman is working on the fore royal yard of the sailing ship.
