| The scow Owhiti sailing up harbour past the
Ferry Building in the 1920's. Watercolour (730x530)mm This is later than the other old Auckland paintings. The Ferry buildings were built in 1912 but the Harbour Board Building can still be seen to the right. The time-ball has gone ... wireless has made it redundant. I include this painting to enable viewers who know Auckland to place the position of the Harbour Board building. The seventy one foot ketch-rigged scow Owhiti was built byD.Darroch and Sons in 1924. She was still sailing towards the end of the 20th.century but is now beached and beyond recovery in the Bay of Islands. |
