| Inner Queen's Wharf, 1904. Watercolour (730 x 500)mm The view is looking from near the foot of Queen's Wharf, southwest twards the Harbour Board Building. Note the time-ball was not there in 1904. From left to right the main buildings are: Gladstone's Coffee Palace, the Harbour Board Building and the Sailors' Home. The new Custom's House building is visible behind. Far right is the graving dock. The barque drying sails is the Majorie Craig, the paddle ferry is the Birkenhead and the craft alongside Queen's Wharf is a typical coasting cutter of the period. Painted in 1997. |
