This painting is based on an earlier watercolour of mine and depicts what would have been a typical scene in Mansion House Bay aroud Christmas during that period. The Mullet Boat in the left foreground is a generic 22 footer; as far as I know there was no mullety named 'Eve'. Other identifiable yachts are 'Viking' centre and 'Iorangi' right. Both yachts are still sailing. The excursion steamer 'Ngapuhi' is alongside the wharf.
Mansion House itself is the right of the two white buildings. The other was a boarding house which I believe was built in 1905 but burnt to the ground in 1909.
